When I was a little girl, my mother was very protective.

Yes, she was protective of her children, but what she was really protective of was her kitchen.  I kid you not.

Mom did not allow us to help her cook. We had the fun task of cleaning up.  I did not let that stop me though.  I think the fact that she would let me cook, made me want to learn even more.  Mom is an excellent cook, uses no recipes or measuring utensils and lets her taste buds guide her.

She is quite adorable and when we go out to eat at a restaurant, she always orders whatever I order.  She always makes sure the waiter knows how old she is.  Fishing for the “Oh my, you don’t look like you are 86.

In honor of my mom, I decided that I would cook what I wanted.  Because she always wants the same thing I want.

After all and I know mom will love it too.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great Mother’s Day!

  19. Your mother was obviously very talented in the kitchen. Despite the barriers to her territory, it looks like you have inherited her talents, Marlene. Your shrimp look fantabulous…P.s. Very cute indeed that your mom wants waiters to know she’s 86 =) My mom is 88 but does her best to avoid the subject of age =)

  25. That’s so cute, she orders what you order. I know about not being allowed in the kitchen. I waited until I had my own house to cook and I wished there were kiddos to help clean up! These smoky paprika shrimp sounds so delicious. I’d probably eat a good amount before I made it to the rice!
